Kansas on December 11, 1920, to Roy Henry and Susan (Maxwell) Mortimore, and passed away on April 16, 2005 in Moscow, Idaho. She graduated from Lamoni High School in 1938, from Graceland College in 1940, and from the University of Iowa in 1942. Following graduation, she worked in Rochester, Minnesota; Abilene, Texas; Warm Springs, Georgia; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Her work was a physical therapist for people who had suffered from polio during the epidemics of that time in those various places. She was married to Claud Lomax, (Maquon, Illinois) in September 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was stationed with the U. S. Navy. She accompanied him to various duty stations, including New York City and San Francisco, California, and to other work locations between his tours of duty with the Navy. She did additional work in physical therapy in Denver, Colorado and San Francisco, California during this time. They made their home in Pullman, Washington, where Claud was an instructor in civil engineering at Washington State University. During that time she was involved in a number of volunteer community activities, including physical therapy at a local hospital and a horse-riding therapy program for special needs children. She was preceded in death by her parents; a younger brother, Winston Maxwell; and her husband, Claud. She is survived by her daughter, Lou Ann Lomax, of Pullman, Washington; a sister Betty Jean Downing, of Marion, Iowa; a sister, Gwennyth Vega, of Ukiah, California; a brother, Robert Mortimore and wife Janet, of Clio, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Her ashes will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa, at a time to be determined later.
