The Rev. and Mrs. Barton had been in California for the past three months, doing evangelistic church work. The daughter of Elmer and Pearl Oiler Gail, she was born January 7, 1923, in Ottumwa. She had lived here all her life and was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible. She was married in February, 1939 [sic], in Missouri to Donald Barton who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Jerry Barton of Ottumwa, David and Richard Barton at home; a grandson, Jeffrey Barton of Ottumwa; her mother, Mrs. Pearl Gail of Ottumwa; and two brothers, the Rev. Neil Gail of Cedar Rapids and Kenneth Gail of Downey, Calif. Her father, an infant son and a brother preceded her in death. The body will be returned to the Johnson funeral chapel here early Monday to await completion of funeral arrangements. “Barton Services,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” Monday, January; 19, 1959: Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Barton, 36, wife of the Rev. Donald Barton, 1423 Chester avenue, who died early last Thursday in a Pasadena, Calif. hospital, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Open Bible. The service will be conducted by the Rev. L.C. Card, pastor, assisted by the Rev. W.B. Friend, pastor of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Rev. William Wind, the Rev. Leo Simmons, the Rev. Russell Sporer, the Rev. Milton Forbes, the Rev. Jack Ward, and Paul Grooms. The casket arrived here early today and was taken to the Johnson funeral chapel. It will remain at the chapel until 11:30 a.m. Thursday, when it will be taken to the church.
