Description	:	Phyllis Jane (McGibbon) Matchett, 89, passed away early Wednesday morning after a brief illness. Phyllis was born in Swayzee on January 27, 1927, to Faye and Loran McGibbon. Her early years were spent growing up on the family farm in Swayzee with her sister, Carolyn Kleopfer, Syracuse, who survives her. She also had a brother, Robert, who died at six months of age. At Indiana University, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and her outstanding academics earned her entry into Phi Beta Kappa. Phyllis was born in Swayzee on January 27, 1927, to Faye and Loran McGibbon. Her early years were spent growing up on the family farm in Swayzee with her sister, Carolyn Kleopfer, Syracuse, who survives her. She also had a brother, Robert, who died at six months of age. At Indiana University, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and her outstanding academics earned her entry into Phi Beta Kappa. Phyllis went on to earn a Master's degree in Dietetics from Ohio State University. She and her husband, Ronald, served as Treasurers of Converse Church of Christ for more than 20 years. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 2000. If you want to imagine what it was like to be in Phyllis' home, first of all, you would sit down in a comfortable chair that she would have offered you immediately. Her house would smell like her famous sourdough pancakes. You would be offered candy or chex mix and something to drink. Then she would graciously sit down to visit with you as if she had nothing else better to do. The only thing she loved more than entertaining was being the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to a large and loving family. She is survived by her son, Jay (Mary Ann) Matchett, Muncie; daughters, Nancy (Dan) White, Mishawaka, and Sue Matchett (Kristi Williams), Carmel. The grandchildren who will mourn her loss are Andrew (Sylvia) White, Ali (Clint) Richardson, Kimberly (Billy) Van Elk, Michael (Amanda) Matchett, Brian (Elizabeth) Matchett, Katy (Michael) Burke, and Bryan Williams. Phyllis was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. Phyllis lived her life with a strong faith, and she leaves a legacy of love, grace, and a life well-lived. She will be forever in our hearts. Calling hours will be from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Converse Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 4 p.m. with Pastor David Wheeler officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in Thrailkill Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN
