Description	:	Phyllis Jean Straw Lackman Our beloved mother, Jean Lackman passed away on May 19, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Jean was the 8th of 11 children born to Orrel and Nellie Fay Smith Straw on July 10, 1931 on Alkali Creek in Billings. During the Great Depression times were hard but family life was strong. She graduated from Senior High School in 1949. On March 12,1950 she married David Lackman III and they lived on the family farm west of Billings. Jean was the 8th of 11 children born to Orrel and Nellie Fay Smith Straw on July 10, 1931 on Alkali Creek in Billings. During the Great Depression times were hard but family life was strong. She graduated from Senior High School in 1949. On March 12,1950 she married David Lackman III and they lived on the family farm west of Billings. Of this union 4 children were born: Michael, Bruce, Marty and Sandy. Jean was always active on the family farm, helping with crops and harvests and caring for the livestock. She was always a loving Mother to her children and was involved in helping them with school events, 4-H activities and participating in Sunday church. Jean loved her garden and everyone enjoyed her canned vegetables throughout the year. She was always quick with a smile and to share the latest family news. Jean was always there to help people in need. Jean loved family vacations as well as fishing and camping with other family friends. David passed away after 42 years of a glorious, loving and bountiful marriage to Jean on the family farm. She is preceded in death by David, her mother and father, Nellie Fay and Orrel Straw, a loving companion of 9 years Bill Hickson. 5 sisters; Sara Jacobs, Dorothy Plath, Margaret Priestley, Helen Clark, Jeanette Richardson. 3 brothers; James Straw, Norman Straw and Wilbur Straw and one granddaughter Clarissa Lackman. Survivors include her children; Michael (Shellie) Lackman of Fairfield Iowa, Bruce (Mary) Lackman of Billings, Marty Lackman of Billings, Sandy (Rick) Hatfield of Helena, 6 grandchildren; James Durney of Las Vegas, Andrea (Pablo) Lackman of Florida, Justin Durney of Helena, Kristin (Brett) Carlson of Helena and Jeffrey Lackman. 4 great grandchildren; Austin, Peyton, Samantha Carlson and Selina Lackman. Also 2 sisters; June (David) Wittman and Winnie Lehner and numerous nieces and nephews. Other extended family: Bill Hickson of Acton, Linda (Boyd) Morgan of Belgrade, Russ Hickson and Chris (Cyristal) Hickson of Acton. Viewing will be Tuesday 24, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services with be held on Wednesday 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Smith West Chapel. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. A fellowship lunchon will follow back at Smith West Chapel. Memorials may be made to Yellowstone River Parks Association or the charity of one's choice.
