Mrs. Phyllis Joanne Sager, 77, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. She passed away at the E. A. Hawse Nursing & Rehab Center in Baker, WV. A daughter of the late Dilmon K. and Hazel Miller Hibbard Combs, she was born on Oct. 26, 1934 in Winchester where she lived her early life. She lived the majority of her life in West Virginia in the Baker and Mathias communities. Mrs. Sager was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She had worked as a seamstress at the Lee Co. in Broadway for 11 years; worked at Rocco Further Processing In Timberville for 2 years and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Camelot, Oak Lea and E.A. Hawse Nursing & Rehab Center; and was a greeter at the Walmart in Winchester for 7 years. On Dec. 19, 1952 she married H. Allen Sager who preceded her in death on June 25, 1988. She is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Mathias, Ruth Elaine Snyder, Linda Lee Heishman and husband, Jerry, all of Baker, WV and Sandy K. Rumer, and husband, Jr., of Fulks Run; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Hibbard of Damascus, MD. She also leaves two half-sisters, Roxanne Lamp of Winchester and Carol Crider of Baker, WV; four half-brothers, Richard, Ronald, and Kevin Hibbard, and David Combs; one step-sister, Ramona Wolford of Baker, WV; one step-brother, O'Brien Combs of Delaplane, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Massie Brooklyn Mathias in 2007; one brother, Edgar Hibbard; two step-brothers, Winfred and Marlin Combs; and one half-brother, Jimmy Combs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The casket will be closed. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Nick Yurcaba officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias, WV.
