Description	:	MADISON - Phyllis L. (Smith) Ward, 81, died peacefully on March 20, 2018 at Maplecrest Nursing Home, Madison, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1936 in Fairfield, daughter of Philip and Lucille (Lamontagne) Smith of Skowhegan. After graduating from Skowhegan High School she married Gary Ward of Anson, June 12, 1954. She served 34... Read More	MADISON - Phyllis L. (Smith) Ward, 81, died peacefully on March 20, 2018 at Maplecrest Nursing Home, Madison, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1936 in Fairfield, daughter of Philip and Lucille (Lamontagne) Smith of Skowhegan. After graduating from Skowhegan High School she married Gary Ward of Anson, June 12, 1954. Raising a family of four boys with great joy took up a lot of her time. Later she began working as cook at Madison High School and then at Carrabec before returning to Madison JR High as Head Cook. She served 34 years and the favorite among students were her "Yeast Rolls"!!!! Her four sons are: Michael Ward and wife Lisa of Embden, David Ward of Augusta, Ronald Ward and Kathy of Wayne, William Ward of Norridgewock; grandchildren include Ryan Ward and wife Julie of North Carolina, Todd Ward and wife Jessica of Skowhegan, Randa Mack of Madison, Robyn Ward of Lisbon Falls; great-grandchildren: Deyonce and Quinten Ward, and Kallie Jane Thomas, Kale Mack. Phyllis leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Gary; two sisters, Joan Easler and husband Raymond of Pine Island, Fla., Nancy Breton and husband Paul of Pine Island, Fla., sisters-in-law, Deanna Curtis and husband Philip of Madison, Linda Billing and husband Kenneth of Madison/Haines City, Fla., Sally Miller and husband Clifford of Madison/Sebring, Fla.; several nieces, nephews; and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; brother Norman Smith of Randolph and sister Sally Smith of Bangor. She served on the Anson Fireman's Women's Auxiliary -President five years. For pleasure she and Gary took their Motor Home and traveled with friends around the country and finally landed at Casey's in Greenville for their summer and fall gatherings. She enjoyed fishing, making many mittens for needy children at Christmas time, making small decorative baskets, and everyone enjoyed her cooking expertise at Lasagna, Dynamites, Molasses Cookies and Christmas cakes….She and Gary were regular attendees of Christ Community Fellowship-formerly United Baptist Church, Madison. A celebration of life will be held later at the convenience of the family. The family expresses many thanks to Hospice, Dr. Paradis and workers at Maplecrest Nursing Home for the special care given Phyllis during her illness. Arrangements are under the direction of Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple Street, Madison. (Central Maine Newspapers 3/26/2018)
