Description	:	Phyllis Mae Cundiff, 53, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at her residence. She was born May 7, 1956, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late J. P. Cundiff and the late Shirley Shelton Cundiff. She was a lifelong member of Greenpond Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Vickie C. Felts and her husband, Kim, of Midlothian; Donna C. Read More	Phyllis Mae Cundiff, 53, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at her residence. She was born May 7, 1956, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late J. P. Cundiff and the late Shirley Shelton Cundiff. She was a lifelong member of Greenpond Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Vickie C. Felts and her husband, Kim, of Midlothian; Donna C. Kummer and her husband, David, of Salem; one brother, Melvin Cundiff and his wife, Penny, of Chatham; four nephews, Patrick Felts and his fiancÂ‚e, Erica; Ryan Felts and his wife, Emily; Andrew Felts; Chase Cundiff; one niece, Allison Perkins and her husband, Brett; and one great-niece, Adelaide Rose Felts. She is also survived by an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts and uncles, and many devoted friends including, Gail Miller, Ina McDonald and Barbara Flanagan. Phyllis was a graduate of Gretna High School. She attended Radford College, where she was a Phi Kappa Phi honor graduate with a degree in speech pathology and a master's degree in communication disorders. Phyllis had a deep love for children and began her career in Roanoke City Schools in 1978 as a speech pathologist and later as a speech-language coordinator. She was principal of Grandin Court Elementary School for 12 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society-International Honor Society for Women Educators. She held the following licenses: administration & supervision, Pre-K through grade 12; speech-language pathologist; supervisor of special education and division superintendant's license. She had been the Director of Special Education and Pre-School Programs for Roanoke City Schools since 2003. She also served on the Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Phyllis M. Cundiff Scholarship Fund at Radford University, Radford University Foundation, 6226 University Park Drive, Suite 2600, Radford, VA 24141. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 26, 2010, at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and at other times at the family residence, 596 Snowberry Road, Chatham. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Greenpond Baptist Church in Chatham, by the Rev. R. G. Rowland, the Rev. Steve Carlton. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. A Colorectal Cancer Awareness fundraising walk will be held in Phyllis' memory at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to all of Phyllis' dear friends in the Roanoke City School system for their support, devotion and love during her illness.
