Description	:	STROMSBURG -- Phylis Marie Brockman, 84, of Stromsburg, passed away April 18, 2014, at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Dan Spearow officiating. Visitation and a time of fellowship with lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. until service at the church. Interment will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Columbus. Dubas Funeral Home of Stromsburg and Osceola has been entrusted with arrangements. Phylis was born Aug. 25, 1929, to Alfred and Stella (Eis) Chain on her parents’ farm in Oakwood, Okla. She attended grade school in Oakwood Public School and later moved to Billings, Okla., where she graduated from high school in 1947 and excelled in the game of basketball. On May 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Wiley Scribner in the Methodist Church in Perry, Okla. They were married for 25 years when James passed away in 1972. Four children were born to this union. They moved to Columbus in 1961 where James was transferred for his job with Champlin Oil and Refining Co. Phylis worked for nine years at Dale Electronics. After James' passing she attended night classes for one and one half years at Platte College in Columbus while also working for Behlen Manufacturing and as a waitress in a local steak house. She later worked for four years for K-TTT Radio Station as secretary-receptionist. During that time she met and married Ellsworth Carlson on May 29, 1976, in the Methodist Church in Columbus. They lived on a farm near Polk for six years. In 1982 they moved to Stromsburg where Phylis worked for the Stromsburg Bank for 20 years. She retired in 1997 and took care of Ellsworth, who died from cancer in January of 1999. They were married for 22 1/2 years. Phylis met and married Robert (Bob) Brockman on April 28, 2001, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus prior to transferring her membership to the Swede Plain Church. When Swede Plain closed she transferred her membership to Stromsburg United Methodist Church. She served on several church committees. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #132. She had served as treasurer and vice president in earlier years. She was active in the Stromsburg Senior Center where she and Bob played a lot of 10-point pitch with friends. She enjoyed working in her yard and flowers when she was able. She also enjoyed drinking coffee, playing pitch and bridge with friends. Survivors include her husband Bob of Stromsburg; children, Ronald (Monica) Scribner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael (Gerianne) Scribner of Omaha, Gregory (Judy) Scribner of Columbus and Debra Jean (Bill) Mehaffey of North Bend; seven grandchildren, T.J. (Dixie) Scribner, Sean (Lisa) Scribner, Jim, Luke and Molly Scribner, Heather Johnson, Meghan (Jason) House; four stepchildren, Debbie (Steve) Dahlquist, Bobby (Kathy) Brockman), Patricia (Brad) Riggs, Rick (Diane) Brockman; eight step-grandchildren, Jacob (Lauren) Dahlquist, Connor (Arri) Dahlquist, Shannon Dahlquist, Derek (Carla) Riggs, Danielle Riggs, Ryan and Tara Brockman, and Virginia Lane; eight great-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild, Addi, Jada, Titus, Onyx, Gabrielle and Grant Scribner, Noah Johnson, Stella House and Jackson Dahlquist; sister Romayne Baker of Stockton, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, James Scribner and Ellsworth Carlson; one brother; one sister and several nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the Stromsburg Senior Center or the United Methodist Church Memorial or Scholarship fund.
