Phyllis Maxine Clark was born on October 19, 1944 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Curtis and Sarrah (Smith) Clark. She was raised and received her education in Buffalo SD. Phyllis was united in marriage with Robert Sheffield in December of 1965. From this union the couple were blessed with a daughter, Sarrah and a son, Kent. Phyllis was later united in marriage with James T. Matson in 1970; from this union the couple were blessed with a daughter, Dena. Phyllis worked and raised her children in Buffalo until making her home in Sioux Falls, SD in 1992. She worked in cleaning and housekeeping at Sioux Valley Hospital, Minnehaha County Courthouse and Peska Construction. Phyllis was a hard worker and was always willing to help anyone in need. Phyllis enjoyed camping, fishing, watching fireworks, painting ceramics and teaching her grandchildren sewing and finger crocheting. Above all she loved spending time with her family and friends; especially her grandchildren. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Sarrah Liedtke and her husband, Chad of Nunda SD, Kent Sheffield of Buffalo, SD, and Dena Matson-Smith of Sioux Falls SD; six grandchildren: Hailey Jordan and her husband, Austin of Rapid City SD, Preston Liedtke of Brookings SD, Cori Liedtke of Mankato MN, Sydney Liedtke of Nunda SD, Perri Liedtke of Nunda SD and Walter C. Smith III “CJ” of Sioux Falls SD; one brother, Curtis Clark Jr. and his wife, Ramona of Spearfish SD; one sister, Gladys Johnston of Prineville OR; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents: Curtis and Sarrah Clark; son-in-law, Walter C. Smith II; and six siblings: Laura Fladmoe, Susan Nitschke, Ilean Verhulst, John Clark Sr., Alice O'Byrne and Tom Clark. - George Boom Funeral Home
