Dennert was born on February 27, 1915 to Clarence and Martha (Helen) Vieberg at the Vieberg homestead near Langford, SD. She had three sisters and one brother. Phyllis attended a country school for her elementary grades and then entered Langford High School. Her father died when she was 13 so she became "Miss Fixit" of the family. She taught herself how to drive and how to play the cello. At 15, the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where she graduated from high school. After her graduation in 1932, they moved to a farm east of Barnard where Phyllis met Alwin and married 9/9/33. They lived on the farm their whole married life. Three children were born. Charles “Bill” (Pat) Dennert, Frederick, SD, Philip Dennert, Shawnee, KS, Cathy (Keith) Namock, Chino Valley, AZ. There are ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Claire Baarstad, Sioux Falls, SD. Phyllis and Alwin loved traveling with their Airstream trailer and went many places, including Mexico City, Mexico. They met many friends and enjoyed several winters in Arizona. Phyllis was the typical farm wife, had a garden, helped in the fields, canned, sewed (she made her own "fitted sheets"). She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Houghton, SD where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and cooked many meals in the church basement. She loved all kinds of crafts including ceramics and was an excellent painter. All family members have examples of her beautiful works. After Alwin died on July 21, 2004, she spent summers in her home on the farm and in the fall, winter and spring, she was either with Phil in Kansas or with Cathy and Keith in Virginia and Arizona. She was a trooper when it came to going and seeing new things. "Have wheelchair will travel" was her moto! In 2012 she went back to the farm. Later she moved into Gelhaus Carehaus and eventually into Angelhaus where she received very special and loving care. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Alwin, two sisters, one brother and her parents. She was a very loving person and will be missed by all. - Spitzer Funeral Home
