Description	:	Last rites are being planned for Mrs. Dena DeBoer-Nordmann, who passed away on Wed. July 14 at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls. The deceased had been seriously ill for the past three months, and underwent an operation about nine weeks ago at which time it was discovered that she was suffering from cancer. July 14 at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls. The deceased had been seriously ill for the past three months, and underwent an operation about nine weeks ago at which time it was discovered that she was suffering from cancer. Mrs. Nordmann, nee Dena Vroom, was born on Nov. 30 1878 at Grieborg, Groningen, Holland, the daughter of Jacobus and Geesfien Vroom. She grew to womanhood in her native land and on May 25, 1901 she was united in marriage to Hilko DeBoer. The couple came to the United States two years later and for twenty years they farmed in the Chancellor, Lennox, and Worthing communities. In 1924 they took up their residence in Lennox. Mr. DeBoer passed away September 1939. One daughter, Dina passed away in infancy, and another daughter, Helen, succumbed in 1940. In May, 1941, Mrs. DeBoer was re-married to Harm Nordmann, Sr. and for a short time resided on a farm east of Lennox, the couple taking up their residence in Lennox in 1945. Mr. Nordmann succumbed in September, 1946. In addition to her own large family, the late Mrs. Nordmann was also beloved by two grandchildren whom she raised and ten step-children, five of whom were at home at the time of her remarriage. Five of her own sons, two step-sons and two grandsons served in the armed forces during World War II. Left to mourn her departure are two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Bertrand, Centerville and Mrs. Sena Poppenga, Davis; six sons, Harmie, Marthasville, MO; Jake, Benton City, WA; Edward, Yakima, WA; Peter, William and John, Lennox; two grandsons. Step-children are Harm, Dick,Ralph, William, Frank and Peter Nordmann, Mrs Louise, Moerke, Mrs. Eugene Peterson, Mrs, Marie Bultena, and Katie Nordmann.
