PINKNEY HODGES On the morning of July 19th, while in Washington, God called home the spirit of our departed brother, Mr. Pinkney Hodges. Mr. Hodges was born in Mathews, September 27th, 1856 and had resided here until the end came. On June 7th, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Soles, of Soles, Va., and they made their home at Soles. Mr. Hodges was born in Mathews, September 27th, 1856 and had resided here until the end came. On June 7th, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Soles, of Soles, Va., and they made their home at Soles. The body was brought home on Tuesday, July 20th and kept until Sunday, awaiting the arrival of his son, A.S. Hodges of the S. S. Lake Charles. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at 11:30 at Chapel M. E. Church by his pastor, Rev. D. W. Jackson and the remains laid to rest in Haynes Cemetery by the side of his son, who preceded him a few years ago. He leaves to mourn their loss, a heart-broken widow and nine children; four daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Cox, of Savage, Va., Mrs. Bertha P. Hurst, of Washington; Misses Lucy C. and Virginia Dare, of Cobbs Creek; and four sons, A. S. Hodges, mate of the S. S. Lake Charles; John M. Hodges, of Cobbs Creek; George D. Hodges, of Hilton Village and Robert Hodges, of Washington. Five sisters also survive; Mrs. Alice Peary of Tennessee and Mrs. Kittie Johnson, of Middlesex; one brother, Mr. N. S. Hodges, of Atlanta, Ga. Without a moment's warning, Without time to say good-bye. God called you from this home of sorrow, To your home beyond the sky. There some day we hope to meet you, When life's few days are o'er. Where farewell tears are never shed And partings are no more. ~ A Friend.
