Porter BELLOWS - We have at hand some particulars as to the early history of this old and respected citizen, who died at his residence in French Creek Twp., of Bilious Pneumonia, on the 9th inst., at the advanced age of 75 years and 2 months. Mr. BELLOWS was one of the oldest residents of the county, having settled in French Creek in the year 1851. He was born in an Eastern State. His early life was spent in Michigan and New York, coming thence to Rockton, Ill., where he engaged in mechanical pursuits until his emigration to this County in the year above mentioned, when he settled on a large tract of land on the Iowa river and engaged in farming. He also built, and owned for several years the French Creek Mill. For eighteen years he was Post Master of French Creek office and for about the same time filled the office of Justice of the Peace. For many years he served as President of Township School Board and as Sub-director in district in which he resided. He also served several terms in the Board of Supervisors, and performed the duties of each office in an acceptable manner. His illness was short. A man of robust constitution and splendid physique, he bore the infirmities of age well and treated his illness as something to pass away soon - walking out in the yard three days before his death and refusing medical treatment until later and too late. He was twice married and leaves a widow, five sons, and one daughter. Funeral services were held at his late residence on Monday, Dr. AMBLER conducting them, and the remains were interred in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
