Description	:	Porter Lafayette Brown, 80 longtime Shelby resident, died at his home in Shelby, Wednesday July 11, 1951. He was the son of Thomas Brown and Roselma Dunlap Brown. While he was very young his parents moved to a farm near Atlantic, where his mother passed away when he was about 3 years old. Read More	Porter Lafayette Brown, 80 longtime Shelby resident, died at his home in Shelby, Wednesday July 11, 1951. He was the son of Thomas Brown and Roselma Dunlap Brown. While he was very young his parents moved to a farm near Atlantic, where his mother passed away when he was about 3 years old. Later they moved to Shelby where he made his home with the Net Frum family. He attended the Shelby schools and then went to business school in Omaha. Most of his life was spent in and around Shelby except for several years in northern Iowa and in Council Bluffs. He was united in marriage to Elva Marie Schnackel on May 29, 1918 and to this union were born five children, Darlene, who died in infancy, Lawrence of Shelby, Paul of San Francisco, Dorothy of Shelby, and Helen Brown Hawn of the Panama Canal Zone, who with his wife survived him. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Walter Eugene and Christine Diane Hawn. George Brown and Mary Brown Shook, his half-brother and sister preceded him in death. Services were held in Shelby Methodist Church Saturday, July 14, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Charles H. Davis of Council Bluffs and Rev. W.W. Watson of Shelby officiated. Interment was made in the Shelby cemetery. The Harlan News Advertiser Harlan, Iowa July 31, 1951
