Description	:	Columbia - Funeral service for Mr. Preston Boyd Free, 73, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2003, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Shives Funeral Home. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Nathan Hamiter and Bessie Myers Free. He was owner and operator of his own business in Columbia for over 50 years, the last of which was Cheap-o's. Mr. Free was an avid Tennessee walking horseman for over 40 years, past president of the S.C. Walking Horse Assoc. and a member of the National Walking Horse Owners Assoc. He was an active member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, where he served numerous times on the Council and was a strong supporter of all programs for the church. He never met a stranger and was loved by all. Mr. Free was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family and friends loved him and will missed him dearly. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Vera Eargle Free; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Paul Orben Pool of Chapin; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Crenguta (Cren) Free of Santa Barbara, CA; sister, Mrs. William (Bill) Russell (Norma Free) Holsombeck of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Todd Orben Pool, Preston Boyd Free, II and Erica Free; special friend, Joseph (Joe) Wise. He was predeceased by three brothers; Nathan Dolphus Free, Joe A. Free, Marvin Darrell Free, Sr., and one sister; Sadie Belle Free Draffin. © The State, Columbia, SC, 28 Sep 2003
