Wooley (USAF RET), passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at his residence. Born May 14, 1918, in Smackover, to Newton Glover and Ellie Brillhart Wooley, he graduated from Smackover High School in 1935 and attended the University of Arkansas and Texas A&M University. A 1941 graduate of the Army Cadet Flying Program as a 2nd Lieutenant, he returned from the U.S. Air Force in 1962 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was one of the youngest pilots to achieve Command Pilot status and served in five different countries during his Air Force career, including three years at the Pentagon. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed as a stockbroker in El Dorado for 19 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Smackover. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wooley was preceded in death by his wives, Lucille Brown Wooley (1984) and Betty West Wooley (2009); one sister, Ruby Brock of Smackover; and one brother, Bobby Wooley of Baton Rouge, La. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Sydney West Murphy and her husband, Mike, of Charleston, S.C.; two nieces, Linda Williams of Shreveport, La., and Paula Stratton of Houston; and five nephews, Donald Brock and Edward Brock of Smackover, Garr Wooley of Zachary, La., Dennis Lynn of Little Rock, and Rex "Rocky" Lynn of Bee Branch. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Smackover at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, with the Rev. Leon Dixon officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. before the service. Interment will be at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 500 W. Seventh St., Smackover, AR 71762, or Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.
