Description	:	Mrs. Prudence Catherine Knauss, 94 years old, one of the few widows of Civil war soldiers in the county, died Saturday afternoon at her home, 415 East Third street. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the L. A. Jones funeral home, in charge of her pastor, Rev. George Kerr of the United Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Mrs. Knauss had lived 89 years in Washington county. She was born Nov. 16, 1849, at Marion, Ill., and came to Washington county by covered wagon and by train when she was five old, in 1854. She was a daughter of Dr. J. W. Phillips and wife. She was married in June, 1865 to A. J. Knauss, a veteran of the civil war, who died in January, 1926. Mrs. Knauss, who was the last of a family of four sisters, had once shaken the hand of Abraham Lincoln when she was a young girl, she was proud to tell her children. Besides her children, Mrs. Knauss is survived by 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandsons. Eleven of her grandchildren are in the armed services. Surviving children are Mrs. J. F. Burnham of Chicago, Mrs. M. O. Butcher of West Liberty, Mrs. Ida Cain of Knoxville, Ill., Mrs. E. E. Boarts of Council Bluffs, and Guy Knauss of Washington.
