Enlisted on 4/22/1861 as a Private, he mustered into "A" Co. VA 30th Infantry. Reenlisted 2/18/1862 for 2 more years; due $50 Reenlistment Bounty. Wounded in shoulder 9/17/1862 Sharpsburg, MD. He was accidentally killed in a railroad accident while on duty near Chesterfield, VA. The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in June, 1861.
