Died 3rd Light Artillery Regiment Indiana on 28 February 1862 at Tipton, Missouri. OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - May 8, 1863 In the hospital at Springfield, Missouri, April 18th, 1863, after an illness of three weeks, Burr Rose. His remains were transferred from there to Rolla, Missouri, by the Government, where his father met them and brought them to Wabash, where they were followed to the grave, May 1st, by a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. His grandfather, William Rose, served six years during our Revolutionary struggle; also six months in the War of 1812. His father, John B. Rose, served as Lieutenant in the War of 1812. Such were his patriotic ancestors, and with a heart fired with the same patriotism he enlisted at his country's call, in the 3d Indiana Battery, August 8th, 1862, and as he went forth to the struggle, his words were, "If I fall in fighting for my country, it will be with a clear conscience." Peace to his ashes! He leaves a widowed wife and two small children, with many other relatives and friends, to mourn his untimely loss. Thus many hearts all over this land are made to sorrow and lament; such are some of the direful effects of this unholy, ungodly, unnatural, and unprecedented rebellion.
