GORE DEAD - Confederate Veteran and Was Police Officer For 40 Years. Officer Charles A. Gore died at his home here Tuesday night from general debility, having been confined to his home for several years, aged 67 years. The deceased was a son of the late Jacob Gore, a respected citizen of antebellum days, and had been a member of the police force from 1868 to bis death, except one year, 1884-1885. He was an honored Confederate soldier. having served faithfully during the entire war as a member of Company C, 30th Virginia Regiment, first commanded by Capt. C. Wistar Wallace and later by Capt. R.T. Knox. He was a member of the Methodist church, Lodge No. 22 Knights of Pythias, the Council of Red Men and Maury Camp C.V. He is survived by widow and two children and three brothers, Messrs. John and James Gore, of New York State, and Jacob Gore, of Washington. Funeral will be held from Methodist church Friday afternoon at 8 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. L. Dolly. The pallbearers will be: Active — Messrs. J.W. Adams, J.W. Musselman, T.F. Proctor, J. H. Gallaban, W.F. Bell and A. B. Bowering; Honorary - J.H. Robinson, W.R. Hall, W.N. Tansill, J.A. Stone, Geo. W. Wroten, J.P. Rowe, S.J. Quinn and Dr. A.C. Doggett."(Fredericksburg) The Daily Star - Sept. 23, 1908. The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in June, 1861. Men of this unit were from Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and King George.
