Description	:	ST PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, August 24, 1944 Pfc, Charles ULLERY, son of Mr and Mrs Walter ULLERY of Christiansburg, has been reported killed in action in the Burma theater on July 27th. He was inducted into service in February, 1943, and after training in this country was sent to India, then to Burma. Surviving are his parents; a sister Mrs Pauline COLLINS of Christiansburg; two brothers, Burney ULLERY at home and Herman ULLERY. Undated Newspaper Clipping: PVT Charles R Ullery killed in Burma, First Christiansburg Casualty Pvt Charles Richard Ullery, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Ullery of Christiansburg, was killed in action July 27 in Burma. This is the first casualty for the Christiansburg vicinity. A former employee of the National Pump Company in Dayton, he was inducted into the army in February, 1943. He trained at Camp Swift, Texas, Ft Leonard, Wood, MO, and at camps in Louisiana and Maryland before going overseas with an infantry unit last April. Private Ullery was stationed in India before his outfit moved to Burma. He became a member of the Methodist Church in Christiansburg on his last furlough at home, shortly before going overseas. He was a member of the IOOF lodge. In addtion to his parents, the soldier is survived by a sister, Mrs Pauline Collins, residing at home while her husband is in service; two brothers, Herman an aviation machinists mate second class at Traverse City, MI and Burney of Christiansburg, and a half brother Sgt Kermit Baker, now in Italy.
