Private Bily was born Jun. 12, 1926, at Spillville, and attended the Spillville parochial school and Calmar High two years. Prior to his induction, he was employed as a truck driver. Private Bily was born Jun. 12, 1926, at Spillville, and attended the Spillville parochial school and Calmar High two years. Prior to his induction, he was employed as a truck driver. He was inducted into the Army Oct. 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Hood in Texas and went overseas Apr. 1, 1945. He was killed in action June 9, 1945, near Manila on Luzon, when he went to discover enemy fortified positions. He was buried in the U.S. Cemetery No. 2 in Manila. --- The Olewein Daily Register, 19 Oct 1948 Spillville Burial for Private Bily Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bily received word that the body of their son, Private Clarence Bily, will arrive in Calmar Wednesday. Services will be conducted at St. Wenceslaus church in Spillville. Also participating in the military funeral will be American Legion Post 467 of Spillville. Pvt. Bily is survived by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Jim Ronan, Decorah, and Dorothy, a student at Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids. --- Note: Enlisted in the Army, 27 Oct 1944. Listed in the U.S. Roster of WWII Dead, 1939 - 1945 (no further information)
