Edwin Ambrose, one of the eleven children of Frank and Anna Ambrose was born in St. Paul, NE on November 27, 1899. His parents had imigrated there from Bohemia in 1880. In 1916 the Ambrose family retired from farming in St. Paul and moved to Omaha. Edwin finished school and attended Boyles College. When World War I began, he quit school, and enlisted in the Army. He was honorably discharged in December 1918. In the spring of that year, he started working at the offices of Union Pacific 1918. In the spring of that year, he startedworking at the offices of Union Pacific Railroad. On December 2,1927, he was united in marriage to Agnes Hurd. To this union were born three daughters. In the spring of 1929, he and Agnes moved to a farm near Bartlett, Iowa, as he could not let the spring go by any longer without being outside and working the soil. The family resided there until they bought a farm near Henderson, IA in 1945. He lived there forty happy years. He had begun his farming with horses and one-row machinery and a two-row corn picker. He retired from farming reluctantly in 1969. Edwin passed away in Red Oak, on May 21, 1985 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, three daughters, Norma Kissler, of Omaha; Shirley Nagel, of Larrabee, IA; and Nancy Willis, of O'Fallon, IL; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
