Description	:	Ellis James Ledford, 81, of Belle Dowdle Road, Franklin, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at his residence. He was a native of Macon County, a son of the late Marion R. and Frenchie Sanders Ledford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired bridge supervisor for the NC DOT. Read More	Ellis James Ledford, 81, of Belle Dowdle Road, Franklin, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at his residence. He was a native of Macon County, a son of the late Marion R. and Frenchie Sanders Ledford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired bridge supervisor for the NC DOT. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay McDowell Ledford; one daughter, Louise McConnell and her husband, Millard, of Franklin; two sons, Dearl Ledford and wife, Kay, and Douglas Ledford and wife, Beverly, all of Franklin; five sisters, Marie Ramey, Thelma Waldroup, Yvonne Angel, Barbara McConnell, and Josephine DeHart, all of Franklin; two brothers, Wilson Ledford of Milwaukie, Ore., and Al Ledford of Franklin; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Ledford. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 23, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bryant Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Sanders and Rev. Josh Brooks officiating. Burial was in the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery. The Franklin VFW #Post 7339 and American Legion Post #108 presented the flag at the graveside. Dee McConnell, Joe McConnell, Mark McConnell, Pat McConnell, Brandon Ledford, Matthew McConnell, Richard Ledford and David McConnell served as pallbearers. The past and present employees of the DOT Bridge Department and the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
