Description	:	Frederick HEFTY was in the 3rd Regiment Company G Wisconsin Infantry, Union Army, Private. He applied for Pension benefits in 1892 as an Invalid from Washington. His first wife, Katharina, died in 1887 and is buried in Wilson Bridge Manor Cemetery. He remarried to Electa M. (DAY) SHERMAN about 1889. They were neighbors of my wife's ancestors in the Manor area. Frederick was born about January 1845 (1900 Census), Switzerland, and he died 20 August 1925 at the age of 79. Electa M. HEFTY applied for her Widow's Pension September 21 1925. She lived until 1930 October 6 and was buried in Wilson Bridge Manor Cemetery alongside her first husband Alvah J. EDWARDS. His descendants, in the Edwards family, tell of how he joined the Army to serve his new country, was not given a uniform and sent off to fight. It took him several years to prove his service to get his benefits. The 3rd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, was organized at Fon du Lac, Wisconsin and mustered in June 19, 1861. The regiment was in Louisville, KY and mustered out on July 18, 1865. The regiment lost 9 Officers and 158 Enlisted men and 2 Officers and 113 Enlisted men to disease. Submitted by Robert Rankin, McMinnville, Oregon 1925 The Vancouver Evening Columbian Vancouver, Clarke, Washington Monday, August 31, 1925 FREDERICK HEFTY Frederick Hefty, for 40 years a well known resident of Clarke county, died suddenly at his home, 3204 Main street yesterday, aged 79 years, 2 months, and 20 days. He is survived by his wife; Electa, and three daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Helen Elmer, Wisconsin, Mrs. Barbara Engler, Valley Forks, Nebraska, and Mrs. Florence C. Goddard of Vancouver, also 11 grandchildren. Mr. Hefty came from Wisconsin to Washington and settled in Manor 40 years ago, later moving to Vancouver in 1911. He was a member of the Third Wisconsin Regular Infantry and was with Sherman on his famous march to the sea. Funeral services will be held from Knapp's chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. C.E. Baskerville officiating. Interment will be in the Post cemetery. Frederick Hefty's 1st wife was Rose Duerst b abt 1847 New Glarus WI. Their daughters were Helen and Barbara Hefty. Barbara (1869 WI - 1934 KS) married Albert Engler (1867 KS - 1933 KS). Barbara and Albert Engler are buried at Valley Falls Cemetery in Valley Falls, Kansas. Rose dies around 1870 and Frederick marries 2nd wife Kate Rhiner (1852-1887). Their 3 children Fred, John and Florence. Frederick and Electa do not have any children together.
