In 1936, they moved to Nibbe. He and his family moved to the Hi-Line in Ballantine in 1947. George attended school in Worden. After school. he worked for the Huntley Project Irrigation District before moving on to the BonTon Bakery in Billings. He married Eva E. Dalke on Nov. 20, 1951. The following year, he was called to serve in the Korea War. When he returned, he worked for the Post Office. Later, he owned and operated the Gulf Services Station on First Avenue South in Billings. In 1970, George and Eva, and their three children, Kathy, Ben and Cindy, moved to Ballantine where George went to work for the Huntley Project Irrigation District. He became the manager until 1984. George worked for A-1 Rental until he broke his hip in 1983. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his computer. For many years, George was an avid bowler and umpire for softball, both in Billings and in Worden. George also was a hunter's safety instructor and a member of the treasure State Racing Association. He has been a Lions member for many years. In 1983-84, George served as 37-A District Governor. He remained active in Lions until his death. George passed on peacefully in his sleep at his home on March 14, 1996. He had been battling Parkinson's and other illnesses since 1992. George is survived by his wife, Eva of Worden; three children, Kathy Yakel and her husband Larry, of Ballantine, Ben and his wife Debora of Worden and Cindy Langner and her husband Steve of Mandan, N.D.; his mother, Marjorie Barnard of Ballantine; one brother, Leonard Barnard of Ballantine; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; one foster brother, Dale Fuller, of Washington, D.C.; and one foster sister, Vada Forsjord of Billings. He was well liked by everyone and will truly be missed. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery, Ballantine, MT. Memorials may be made to the Stockman Bank in Worden, in memory of George Barnard.
