Mr. Perritte was born in Larington, Wiltshire,. England, about the year 1840. In 1854 he emigrated with his parents to this country and settled on land that is now a part of the Morganza farm. In 1865 he was married to Miss Kate, daughter of A. G. McPherson, who together with four children, survive him. For a number of years Mr. Perritte followed the business of dealer in live stock. In 1379 he was nominated by the Democratic party for the responsible office of sheriff of Washington county and in spite of the fact that the county was strongly Republican, his personal popularity was such that he was elected by a good majority, some of the Republican townships giving him 100 majority each. Mr. Perritte made an efficient sheriff, and at the end of his term he returned to Canonsburg and again engaged in the stock business. Mr. Perritte was one of the first men in the county to enlist in the three-months' service in the late war. At the expiration of his service he enlisted in the Eighth Penna. Reserves, he was discharged from this regiment at the conclusion of the Peninsular campaign. He again re-enlisted, this time in the First Virginia cavalry, in which he served until the surrender of Lee at Appomattox. On the 31st day of January, 1887, President Cleveland appointed Mr. Perritte postmaster at Canonsburg for a term of four years. His appointment was shortly after confirmed by the senate, and he took charge of the office on the 21st of March. Shortly after he entered upon the duties of the office he had the office refitted and put in first-class style, making it the equal of any office in the county. Mr, Perritte and his daughter, Miss Sadie, who have had charge of the office, attended to the duties of the position in a highly satisfactory manner. They were accommodating to a degree. When . President Harrison was elected in 1888 a majority of the patrons of the office of all parties united in a petition to the President to allow Mr. Perritte to serve out his term. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their great affliction. Funeral services will be held at his late residence on East Pike street on Sabbath afternoon at 2 o'clock.
