Hemingway, Feb 12 Private Glenn R. Lambert, 21, of Hemingway was killed in action in Belgium, January 12. Private Lambert was a son of L. R. Lambert and Mrs. Opal Eaddy Lambert. He was a paratrooper and had been in service some two years. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Mrs. Joe L. McAlister and Miss Lameral Lambert, of Hemingway; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Eaddy, and paternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. L. L. Lambert of Hemingway. One brother, Gervin Lambert, died in 1936. Sgt. (sic) Lambert was a nephew of Mrs. H. G. Senseney Jr. of Lake City. --- Florence Morning News, Saturday, Nov 10, 1945. At Hemingway recently Chaplain J. M. Hughes of Stark Hospital, Charleston, made the memorial address for Glenn S. (sic) Lambert. The Bronze Star was presented to members of the family by a representative of the armed forces. The citation read: "For heroic achievement in action near Grand Raleux, Belgium, January 10 and 12, 1945. After repulsing two attacks Private Lambert and his squad, although outnumbered, were subjected to a third assault by enemy mortars and artillery." By skillful timing and coordinated fire, Private Lambert and his comrades drove back repeated enemy attempts to overrun their position. During this action which accounted for five enemy machine guns and their crews, Private Lambert was killed. Private Lambert's heroic devotion to duty exemplified the highest traditions of military service."
