Mr. Loney spent his early life in Indiana, enlisting in the war of 1861 in Company G, 26th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry. After one and one half years of service, he was honorably discharged for disability. In 1863 in Tippecanoe, Indiana, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Stoops. To this union three sons were born, Charles, George and Herman. He came with his wife to Nebraska in 1864, locating near what is now West Point. This union was broken by the death of his wife in 1872. He was again united in marriage to Mary Smith in 1874. They had two sons, Edward and Oliver and three daughters, Julia, Lillian and Ada. In 1882 with his wife and children, he moved to Plainview, Nebraska, where this union was broken by the wife's decease. In 1906 he married Rosalie Gernhart at Plainview, Nebr. After a residence of 46 years in this state, he moved to Oregon, living there for 14 years. In 1924 they returned to Nebraska, where he has since resided. Coming to Nebraska at just the close of the Civil War, Mr. Loney was one of the real old settlers and was privileged to see Nebraska grow from a wide stretch of prairie to one of the gardens of the world. Mr. Loney was a member of the U.B. church. He is survived by his wife and eight children; Charles E. of Portland, Oregon; George of Plainview; Herman of Niobrara; Edward of White Sulphur Spring, Montana; Mrs John Baxter and Oliver of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Wm. Rasmussen, Plainview; Mrs. Ada Quade of Gresham, Oregon. Funeral services were held at the Metteer & Son Chapel last Monday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Rev. Littrell. The remains were taken to Plainview cemetery. The Plainview American Legion had charge of appropriate services at the grave. They fired a salute and sounded taps as the body of this Civil War Veteran was lowered to its last resting place.
