Obituary Tipton Advertiser March 23, 1899, Page 4 Col. 4 James Davis was born in Clarksville, N.J. July 10, 1822 and died at his home in Mechanicsville, Iowa March 13, 1899. In 1843, he married Lydia Reynolds who lived only about eleven months. In 1845, he married Sarah Pycraft, who died June 6, 1898. To this last union were born three daughters, Mary Anna, Sarah E and Lydia A. He came to Iowa in 1856 and bought a farm near this place, where he resided until the war in which he enlisted August 19th 1862 and was discharged July 1st 1865. He was engaged in blacksmithing in Mechanicsville since the war. He was afflicted with a stroke of paralysis on April 17, 1897 and a second one on May 10th of the same year. He has been confined to his bed since October 22, 1898 and the last 34 days partook of no food. He was converted in his youth and joined the M.E. church and remained a member until his death. He leaves a brother living in Trenton, N.J and one daughter Mrs. Chamberlin of this place, who cared for him so tenderly until his death. His funeral took place Tuesday March 14th at 2 o'clock from the M.E. Church. Rev SS Smith assisted by the G.A.R. post conducted the service.
