Honts, 84, a civil war veteran, 208 West Seventh street, died at 9:45 this morning at his home. He was born in Brown county, Ind., Nov. 27, 1845, the son of Daniel and Mary Honts. His home for the past 24 years had been in Muscatine. He was married to Alvirda Trader, Dec. 19, 1870. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the G.A.R. Surviving, besides his wife, are five sons and one daughter. Albert, of Wisconsin; Francis, Jesse, Robert and David, of Muscatine, and Mrs. Eugene Metzger, of Winfield, Ia. Four sons and one daughter preceded him in death. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services have not been arranged.------On page 10 of the Muscatine Journal and News-Tribune, Monday, August 8, 1927 is the funeral arrangements for J. E. Honts----Funeral services for J. E. Honts, Civil War veteran, who died at his home, 208 West Seventh street, Saturday, were conducted from the First Methodist Episcopal church this afternoon by the Rev. Ira Hawley, pastor of the United Brethren church. Pallbearers were Guy, Glenn, Lee, Kenneth and Francis Honts, and Earl Metzger, grandsons of Mr. Honts. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
