Jeremiah was among the early pioneers in this county, and assisted in laying out the road from Bellefontaine to Columbus, and other enterprises which date back to the early settlement of this locality. He located on the hill now occupied by Martin, his son, in 1818, and has since that time been a constant resident; is yet living, but very infirm, has been bed-fast nearly one year. When he came here, he could have entered land in the bottom, but thinking it worthless, located on the hill instead; here he raised his entire family; the greater portion of them are now in the township. OBIT: Bellefontane Rep. 03-22-1883 " Uncle Jerry REAMS", who died Saturday in Jefferson township, was 92 years + 6 months old. He was the father of 11 children, 8 of whom are living, 41 grand-children, 30 of whom are living, 44 great grand children, of whom 38 are living, and one great great grand child. Jeremiah REAMS, familiarly known for the past forty years as Uncle Jerry REAMS, died Sat., March 17th, 1883, aged 92 years. He was born in Northampton county, North Carolina, Oct. 16, 1792, and immigrated to Ohio in 1810 coming all the way through on foot. He bought land near Marmon Valley in 1818, where he has since lived and raised a family of 11 children. He was a soldier in the war of 1812. Some of his sons served in the late war. For the past four years he has been an invalid, and confined to his bed for most of the time, but his son's family with whom he resided, took the best care of him, making his bed of affliction as soft as kind hands could make it. He was buried in the old burying grounds at Goshen, where many of his old pioneer neighbors have long since been laid to rest. Funeral services conducted by Rev. John D. Elliott. His namesakes: He was named after his paternal Granfather, Jeremiah Wm Reames (1746-1789); Jeremiah Reames (1781-bef July 1860) was his Uncle; Jeremiah A. Reames (1820-1880) was his 1st Cousin, son of his Uncle Elijah Reames; Jeremiah B. Reames (1825-1901) was his Nephew, son of Silas Reames; Jeremiah Franklin Reames (1857-1860) was his Grandson, son of Martin Reames; Jeremiah Reams (1836-1897) was his son.
