Description	:	Jessie was the 2nd of 9 children born of Phineas Slayton (1737-1825) and his wife Eleanor Morey. Jesse's siblings were: Phinehas (1761-1811), Eleanor (1765-1844), Ebiel (Edie) (Lucy) (1766-1850), Abigail (Abby) (b. 1768), Simeon (1769-1847), Elisha (d. 1825), Elijah (1777-1849), and Hannah (1783-1851). In May 1779, Jesse enlisted at Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts as a Private for 6 months in Captain Fisk's Company, Colonel Tyler's Massachusetts Regiment. After the Company mustered at Mendon, Massachusetts, they marched to Providence, Rhode Island. They served at Providence, at Howlands Ferry, and a short distance below Providence guarding a Prison Ship.... Jesse married in September 1781 at Brookfield, after recording their intentions there on September 20th, Betsey (Elizabeth) Buckland (Bucklen)of Westminster, Vermont by whom he had 9 children (4 sons and 5 daughters): Lucy (b. 1782), Bucklen (1784-1858), Jesse (1786-1864), Betsey (1788-1876), Darius (1790-1880), Eleanor (1792-1860), Phineas (b. 1794), Mahala (1796-1886), and Asenath (1799-1862). About 1792, Jesse moved from Brookfield to Calais, Washington County, Vermont. In 1821, he moved to Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont to live with a daughter.
