| Description | : | John C. Burge, Jr., was born about 1827 in Rutherford Co, NC, to John C. Burge, Sr., and Leah Green Burge. John, Jr., married Hester Cabiness in 1859 and had two daughters with her. He joined the Confederate Army in August 1862. At Spotsylvania Courthouse on May 12 1864, he was wounded and captured by Union soldiers, and subsequently sent to a Washington, D.C., hospital to recuperate from his wounded leg.
