Mr May died suddenly Monday. He had been to the depot to send a telegram stating that he would be unable to go in response to a message just received announcing the death of a relative. Coming back home, Mr May, who was well advanced in years, sat down to rest, passing away shortly in his chair without warning. The deceased was born in Adams County, Ohio, February 21st, 1846. He leaves his wife and eight children to mourn his loss. Mrs Cora Ryan of Central City is a daughter of the deceased, and O May is a cousin. Interment will be made in Richland cemetery near Marquette. Ref: Central City Republican, Thursday, February 22, 1923 ***** John David May was born in Adams county, Ohio and died at his home in Marquette, Nebr., February 19, 1923. Age 76 years, 11 months and 28 days. He enlisted in the Civil War in 141 Regiment, Co I Ohio Volunteers and was honorably discharged on Sept. 2, 1865. On December 26, 1867 he was united in marriage with Isabelle Sharp. To this union nine children were born, three preceding him in death, John Wilbert, January 21, 1888, Mrs Albert Carlson March 14, 1906 and Mrs F B Hubbard April 13, 1913. He leaves to mourn his death his loving wife, five daughters and one son, namely: Mrs C F Cunningham, Buhl, Idaho; Mrs S J Hill, Manhatten, Kansas; Mrs C H Kee, Arcadia, Nebraska; Mrs P J Ryan, Central City, Nebr., Mrs J L Shaneyfelt, Dalton, Nebr., Mrs C L My, Marquette, Nebr. Six sisters and one brother. Mrs Martha Henderson, Aurora, Nebr., Mrs Dora Strode, Blair, Nebr., Mrs Arabelle Young, Fairfield, Iowa, Mrs A W Glasgow, Helena, Okla., Mrs Emma Mcaveran, Arcadia, Nebr., Mrs Thomas Joens, Nenton, Iowa; Wm May, Nenton, Iowa. Twenty-five grandchildren and eighteen great grand children. These together with a host of friends and neighbors mourn the loss of a kind father and a devoted friend. At the age of eighteen he united with the Presbyterian church at West Union, Ohio. Later on coming to Nebraska he united with the Presbyterian church at Aurora, Nebr., and remained a faithful member and devoted christian until his death. He was also a member in good standing of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows whose members served as pall bearers at his funeral. Funeral services were conducted at the M E church at Marquette by Rev Thos F B Smith of Central City, assisted by Rev Taylor of the M E church at Marquette. Burial in Richland cemetery.
