O’Connor, 25, was instantly killed Friday afternoon in a tree mishap at Camp Adair, Ore., where he was stationed, according to word received here Saturday by his mother, Mrs. George Sullivan. The body will be returned to Farley for burial services but arrangements have not been completed. It is believed the services will be held Wednesday. Private O’Connor, who was engaged in dining room work at the camp, was a member of a detail assigned Friday to felling trees in the vicinity of the camp, according to the message. He was accidentally killed when a tree that was being felled landed on him. Prior to his entering the service last Nov. Private O’Connor operated a local café for 5 years. He was a member of the 414 Infantry. He was born June 18, 1917 at Bankston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. O’Connor. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School here in 1934, after which he entered the café business. Surviving are his mother; two sisters, Mrs. Emmett Healy of Epworth and Mrs. John Gill of Columbus, Ga.; one half-sister, Ann Marie Sullivan of Farley; and his grandfather, William H. Atkinson of Farley. His father died Jan. 31, 1920. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RITES SET FOR FARLEY SOILDER ~ Funeral of Tree Victim To be Held Thursday ~ Farley, Ia.: Special- Funeral arrangements were completed her Monday for Private John F. O’Connor, 25, who was instantly killed Friday in a tree felling accident at Adair, Ore. where he was stationed. The body will arrive here early Wednesday morning and will be taken to the Sanner Funeral Home where the funeral will be held to St. Joseph’s church at 9:30 o’clock Thursday morning. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. The Legion post will be in charge of the burial service. Prior to his entering the service last Nov. Private O’Connor operated a local café for 5 years.
