Description	:	John was born to Richard and Nancy Gould Robinson. On June 22, 1841 in Mendon, Worcester Ma. he married Adaline Thayer. John and Adaline had six children Edmund L.1843, Summer T.1845, John G.1846, Ellen Marie (Smith)1848, Emily A (Cain)1851 and William F. 1853. After Adaline died on May 1, 1854, John his children and parents moved to a small farm in porter county Indiana a few miles north of Valparaiso. On July 2, 1862 John and his son Edmund volunteered for the Civil War in the 20th Indiana Infantry Co. I. On May the 12th 1864 in Virginia at the Battle of Spotslvania John... Note: After the war one of Johns tent partners Anthony Wayne Smith married his daugter Ellen Marie Robinson. ( The History of Porter County ) Mrs. Cain was born in Worcester county, Massachusetts, on the 31st of July, 1851, and was the fifth in order of birth of the four sons and two daughters of John G. and Adaline (Thayer) Robinson. She was a child of four years at the time of the family removal from the old bay state to Porter county, Indiana, where she was reared and educated and where she has continuously maintained her home. Her father and two of her brothers were gallant soldiers of the Union in the Civil war and her father was killed in the battle of the Wilderness. ( History of Lake County ) Mr. Robinson's father was also a native of Massachusetts, had a common school education, and followed the vocations of shoemaking and farming. For three years he followed the Union flag as a member of Company H, Twentieth Indiana Infantry, and at the terrible battle of the Wilderness, on May 12, 1864, gave up his life for his country. Of the one hundred and one men of his company who went into that memorable engagement, only four came out unscathed, the dead and wounded being piled up five tiers deep.
