Ralston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Ralston, of near McDowell Highland County, passed away Tuesday at Camp Lee, supposedly from Spanish influenza. The young mans parents, who are quite old did not know of his illness, and his death came as a great shock. He was about 28 years of age, a quiet and unassuming man and was a pillar in the neighborhood in which he lived. RALSTON DIES IN CAMP John L. Ralston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Ralston, of near McDowell Highland County, passed away Tuesday at Camp Lee, supposedly from Spanish influenza. The young mans parents, who are quite old did not know of his illness, and his death came as a great shock. He was about 28 years of age, a quiet and unassuming man and was a pillar in the neighborhood in which he lived. He was one of Highland's best young men, honest and upright, and according to one of his closest friend was always handy to do the right thing. He was member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Ralston went to Camp Lee, as his brother Felix Ralston entered the service in the early spring with a contingent from Highland county. Felix Ralston, who is at present stationed at Camp Humphries. He also has a brother at home, Gilbert Ralston, and two sisters, Miss Maggie Ralston and Mrs. Berlin Hammer, both of Highland. The remains will be brought to Staunton and will be met here by two of the young man's friends, W.R. Hicklin and Roy G. Obaugh and the funeral will be from McKendree church near Siron's Mill. This is the second Highland boy to die in a training camp, the other being that of Ira Carpenter, and the third to give his life for his country; the other being Private Albert Gum of Hightown who's death occurred in France and was reported a few days ago.
