Canonsburg Herald, Canonsburg, Washington Co PA, Thursday 11 Aug 1898, page 2 - The body of JONATHAN L. BEBOUT, formerly of this place, was found Friday morning in the Monongahela River at the foot of Market Street, Pittsburg. W. R. ENLOW of South Canonsburg, a son-in-law of the deceased, was notified, and he and Undertaker Speer went in on the 5:56 train and brought the remains here on the 8:36 train Saturday morning. It was learned that the deceased left his boarding house on Wednesday morning and did not return. It is not known how he got into the river. The funeral services were held Saturday at 2 o'clock in the Greenside Avenue U.P. Church, and were conducted by Rev. Scroggs. The interment was in Speer Spring Cemetery. Mr. Bebout was about 60 years of age, and was the son of IRA BEBOUT of North Strabance, and spent nearly all his life in this community. His wife was MISS NANCY McPHERSON of Cecil, sister of JAMES and ROBERT McPHERSON of Cecil, also of WILLIAM McPHERSON, now deceased. Two children were born to them, one of whom died when quite young. The other is the wife of W. R. ENLOW, South Canonsburg. About six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Bebout moved to Pittsburg, where Mrs. Bebout died about three years ago. MRS. ELIZABETH BEBOUT, who lives with her sister, MRS. MARY CAMPBELL of Central Avenue, is his stepmother, and MRS. WILLIAM BLACK, South Canonsburg, and MRS. CAMPBELL, McDonald, are sisters, and SAMUEL H. BEBOUT of Pitcairn, a brother of the deceased. Read less
