The Regiment lost 50 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded and 112 Enlisted men by disease. After his discharge from the military Joseph married Margaret Jane Bevington sometime in 1866 in Ohio. They then moved to Ohio Township in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. That is where their first two children were born, William H. in June of 1868 and John in March of 1870. They are on the 1870 living there. They then moved to Steubenville, Jefferson, Ohio where Cornelia was born on 04 April 1872. Before 1877 they are back in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The last of their known children where born there, Hannah in 1877, Darwin on 28 February 1879 and Hart G. on 05 August 1880. They do not seem to be on the 1880 census. Joseph filed for his Civil War pension on August 5, 1890. In 1898 Joseph moved to Old Bonita in the Big Bend, where he homesteaded some land. On the 1900 census Joseph is living in Foster Creek Precinct, Douglas County, Washington. He is a farmer who owns his farm. He lists himself as single. His wife is on the 1900 census living in Ohio Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania as a Widow. Their last two sons are still at home, Darwin H. age 21 and Hart G. age 19. Two grandchildren are also with her, Goldie J. who is the daughter of Cornelia who is married to John Wesley Wilson, and Carl Edward Ervin who may be the son on Hannah. Jenny M. Ervin died 09 May 1909 in East Liverpool, Columbia, Ohio where she was living. Joseph then reapplied for his Civil War Pension on June 21, 1909. On the 1910 census Jospeh is living with George S. (Sherman) McCalvy (McAlvey) who is married to Mary Cornelia Ervin (daughter of Aaron Black and Harriet Deliah (Butler) Ervin, Joseph's brother). They are in Bridgeport, Douglas County, Washington. Joseph is now a widower who had 7 children with 6 living. Joseph married a second time on 10 Nov 1916 in Chelan County, Washington to Mary A Hammond, Widow of Charles A. Visner. In 1916, he and his 2nd wife, Mary A., moved to Pateros, Okanogan, Washington and in 1919 they moved to Bodie, Okanogan, Washington. That is where he and Marry (Mary) are living on the 1920 Federal census. He is a Farmer again. After his 2nd wife died on 05 July 1922, Joseph moved in to Brewster. Here his sister, Maud Anna Woods (Ervin), moved in with him for the last 13 years of his life. They are listed living together on the 1930 Federal census, Joseph at age of 84y and Anna J. Woods age 72y. He use to go to the school in Brewster and talk to the children about the Civil War and the action he had seen. Joseph is listed on the Washington Death Index as Joseph Collins Irvin (Ervin) death on 20 February 1937 in Okanogan County, Washington, age 92y 1m 8d or born on 12 January 1845, son of John Irvin (Ervin) and Cornelia Woodruff, spouse: Margaret Jane Bevington. Informant was his sister, Annie Woods. His tombstone says 12 Janaury 1946. When he died, his pallbearers who came to his funeral where as follows: Frank, Will, Don and Harry Ervin from Pateros, Aaron Ervin from Twisp, and John Ervin from Wenatchee (all his nephews, sons of Aaron, his brother). He was buried in the Brewster Cemetery, today called the Locust Grove Cemetery. His stone has the Civil War unit he served in on it. It was standing until his grandniece, Anne Fichtner, gave permission in 1990 for it to be laid down. The daughter you have listed for Joseph is actually Aaron Black Ervin's daughter.
