He attended schools in Miles City. He was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. In 1968 Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1971. After returning from the military, Larry worked with his father, brothers and sisters in road construction "Eckart Construction. Larry was a skilled Dozer operator. After his father passed away, Larry and his brothers Bill, Gary and Brother-in-law Bob continued the business and also purchased trucks for over the road which Larry loved "Eckart Trucking Inc.". Larry had a handle of "Hound Dog" on the CB. He was a great mechanic and fabricator for trucks and machinery. Growing up Larry had fast cars and enjoyed going to drag races in Glendive, Lewistown and California. Larry enjoyed going to car shows and to show his 1956 Chevy Belair and 1966 Chevy pickup, which he was very proud of. In 1983, Larry married Kay Schackelford. To this union they had 2 children, Shannon M. Eckart and Larry O. Eckart. Also, a son from a previous marriage. Larry enjoyed giving grief to those he came in contact with. He liked to fish when he was able to. He really enjoyed his grandchildren, and also enjoyed going to coffee and visiting with everyone at the 600 Café. In 2006 he retired because of health reasons due to Agent Orange and other effects from the Vietnam War. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Eckart Johnson, son Larry (Jenni) Eckart, and their two children Ashleigh and Morgan, grandsons; Stacy, Kody and Brayden Arnold, brother; Bill (Ladonna) Eckart, sisters; Diana Gordon, Babe (Don) Pisk. His nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Helen, brother Gary Eckart and Brother-in-law Bob Gordon. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City, MT.
