| Description | : | Lawrence was a member of Co E Iowa National Guard when he registered for the draft. At the time he was living in Macedonia, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Lawrence was the son of Elmer and Kate Jobe, grandson of Thomas (veteran of Civil War) and Mary Jobe. Lawrence enlisted with Co E 42nd Division 168th Infantry, a regiment of the famous Rainbow Division. On July 26, 1918 he was killed in action, suffering nine machine gun wounds to his abdomen, near the village of Fere-en-Tardenois, during the German drive to Chateau-Thierry. This was one of...
