Description	:	Peter served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Fauquier County, Virginia for three years under Captain Elias Edmunds. (Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5, Volume 4, p. 403) He fought at Camden, South Carolina under Baron de Kalb and in August 1780, during the battle of Camden, he was captured and imprisoned. He was wounded in the cavalry charge which resulted in both arms and his side being slashed by a sword. He was subsequently exchanged and served until the end of the war. His wife, Hannah, applied for a pension for his war service and the index to the pension... Read More	Peter served in the Revolutionary War. Va at enl. & he married there to Hannah (---) in April 1783 & sol died 31 Aug 1802, wid appl 7 Sept 1841 Fauquier Co, Va, aged 78, several children mentioned (Revolutionary War Pension Records, Filed at the National Archives, Washington, D.C." (A number of DAR records incorrectly name •Note: Southwest of the Peter Hitt cemetery, in the direction of the River, is a dilapidated log cabin. Because of its proximity to the cemetery, it is believed that this was the home of Peter and Hannah Hitt. Two professionals examined the cabin and they stated that it is their opinion that the building pre-dates 1850 and could possibly have been build as early as 1800 (Report on the Peter Hitt cabin; Tom Thorpe and Edward Ashby; filed at the Fauquier Heritage Society, P.O. Box 548, Marshall, Virginia.
