Description	:	Robert C.M. Denbow came to Marshall Co., Ia. in Aug.1852 with his father and brothers from Knox Co., Il. He enlisted as a 187 pound 17 yr. old on July 1,1861 in Co. D, 5th Iowa Infantry. He marched with his regiment in the pursuit of confederate General Price to Springfield, Mo. in the dead of winter 1861. About Nov.1,1861, while the regiment was at Otterville, Mo., he contracted the measles. Denbow came to Marshall Co., Ia. in Aug.1852 with his father and brothers from Knox Co., Il. He enlisted as a 187 pound 17 yr. old on July 1,1861 in Co. D, 5th Iowa Infantry. He marched with his regiment in the pursuit of confederate General Price to Springfield, Mo. in the dead of winter 1861. About Nov.1,1861, while the regiment was at Otterville, Mo., he contracted the measles. While broke out all over his body he was compelled to sleep in the snow during a snowstorm and contracted a severe cold. This caused the measles to turn inward and came close to ending his life. Sent home on sick furlough he discovered his weight had shrunk to little more then 120 pounds. On his way to rejoin his regiment he fell sick again when reaching St. Louis, Mo. and was here discharged for protracted illness and disability on July 8,1862. From St. Louis he took the steamer "Northerner" up the Mississippi River as far as Muscatine, Ia. and here enlisted a second time on Aug.6,1862 in Co. K, 18th Iowa Infantry. He was promoted 3rd Corp. of Co. K on Aug.14,1863. He was mustered out with his company at Little Rock, Arkansas on July 20,1865. He married Miss Sarah Elizabeth Cubbage on May 6,1866 in the parlor of her father's home in Knox Co., Illinois. He had a daughter with her before her death on Nov.7,1868 in Knox Co. He next married Miss Augusta Elizabeth Mendenhall on Dec.27,1870 and had four additional children with her before her death on Dec.1,1909. He had filed for an invalid pension on April 3,1877 and received certificate # 160.727. He married a third time in 1911 at Albion, Ia. to Lillian O'Simmons. Robert died at Albion, Ia. on Dec.2,1915 and was buried in Albion Cemetery. (This according to "Gravestone Records of Marshall Co., Iowa") His widow filed for a widow's pension on Dec.8,1915 and received certificate # 805.204.
