Spinal Meningitis Causes Death of Samuel Anderson at Des Moines. Another Marshall county soldier boy, and the fourth from near Gilman, to give his life in the service, is Private Samuel Anderson, who died at Camp Dodge Sunday of spinal meningitis, with which he had been ill for some time. Private Anderson was sent with the July 24 contingent to Camp Pike, Ark., and went overseas Oct 1. He was a member of Company H, 161st Infantry of the Forty-first (Sunset) division, but was never in active service. With his company he returned to this country, landing at Newport News, Va., Feb. 24, and was ill at the time. Later he was transferred to Camp Dodge. Private Anderson was born Aug. 31,1888, one mile west of Dunbar and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson, both of whom are dead. Three brothers and a sister survive, in the persons of Chris and Arthur Anderson, of Gilman; Joseph Anderson, of Ellsworth; and Mrs. Robert Muller, of Wright, Minnesota. Another sister, Mrs. G.H. Medhus, is dead. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the grave in the Gilman cemetery, in chart of Rev. O.W. Lippincott of the Methodist Church.
