| Description | : | Husband of Perlina (Elmore) McDowell (1822-1889). Son of John McDowell. Samuel was a Veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War. He enlisted at age 50, on April 4, 1862, in Co. G, 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry. This unit then became Co. K, 7th Missouri State Militia Cavalry. He was enlisted as a bugler and musician. Samuel was discharged in Springfield, Missouri in December 1862 for disability.
