Description	:	Thomas enlisted as a 22 yr. old at Columbus City, Louisa Co., Ia. on July 1,1861 in Co. C, 5th Iowa Infantry. He re-enlisted Jan.5,1864, was consolidated Aug.8,1864 and transferred Sept.18,1864 to Co. G, 5th Iowa Cavalry. Mustered out at Chattanooga, Tn. Aug.11,1865. He married Miss Indiana Carolina Ford at Columbus City, Ia. in 1866. They would have eight children. Thomas filed for an invalid pension July 20,1882 and received certificate # 274.206. After his death at Salem, Ia. on April 22,1917 his widow filed for a widow's pension on May 7,1917 and received certificate # 841.923.
