George W. Lightner, later the Drum Major of the 30th Virginia Infantry. Killed as result of an accident. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Funeral of T.M. McGill.-- The remains of Mr. Thomas McGill, whose death was mentioned in our last, arrived here Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, from Indianapolis, Indiana, on the P. F. & P. Railroad, accompanied by his wife and two sons, Thomas McGill, Jr. and William McGill. A large number of friends met the remains at the depot, which were conveyed to St. Mary's Catholic Church, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Dinneen, after which the corpse was born to the City Cemetery and buried. The pallbearers were Capt. John K. Anderson, ex-Postmaster Frank T. Forbes, Capt. John Ward, M. G. Gately, councilman John M. Griffin and Rufus B. Merchant. Mr. McGill was a gallant Confederate soldier and a member of the 30th Virginia Regiment. He was a native of this place, where he had a number of warm friends and ex-comrades, who mourn his death and deeply sympathize with his bereaved family. His daughter was unable to accompany the remains, being prostrated with grief over the death of her indulgent and loving father. A mammoth floral chair, made of roses, lilies and evergreens, with the name, "Thomas McGill," on the back, and the word "vacant" around the seat, wrought in blue violets, was among the floral offerings. It was indeed, pretty and symbolic. " 'Tis bound by a thousands bands to my heart; Not a tie will break, not a link will start; Would you know the spell? --a husband sat there!
