OCT. 26, 1918∼Obituary: Passing of Another Pioneer: Titus E. Hall was born in Hustisford, Wis., July 3, 1844, and departed this life Oct. 26, 1918, as his home in Pasadena, California. When nineteen years of age, he enlisted in co. K 3rd Reg. Wisconsin Infantry, and served with that regiment until the close of the war, being with Sherman on that memorable march "From Atlanta to the Sea." He came to Nebraska in June, 1866 as the old John Mann place, a few miles from Lyons. Before the railroads reached this part of the state, he drove a stage coach from Herman to Decatur. While thus engaged, he met, and later married, Miss Mary Darling, of Decatur, Nebr. To them four children were born, one son, Don, who died at the age of twelve; three daughters, Mrs. C. S. Newmeyer, of Lyons; Mrs. Roy D. Frame of Los Angeles, California; Mabel with whom he made his home in Pasadena, California. His wife preceded him nine years ago. Besides the three daughters mentioned, there survive two sisters: Mrs. L.C. Lewis, Oleander, California; Mrs. Frank Lewis, Santa Barbara, California, and Lieut. G.D. Hall, who was made a member of the Hall home when only eight years old, and who has, in great measure, helped to soften the grief caused by the loss of his son Don, also two grandchildren, Edward Newmyer and Don Frame, in whom he took great delight. All were present at the funeral except the two sisters in California. Mr. Hall was one of the substantial business men of Burt county, and, in addition to successfully conducting his own affairs, served this county as one of its commissioners, for several terms. He was known as a man of absolute integrity and looked after public affairs with greater concern, if possible, than his own. He made no bid for popularity and was extremely modest, always shrinking from publicity. He was a man of convictions and was invariably on the side of right and justice. He was an honored member of A.L. Gates Post, No. 58, G.A.R. and is survived by few of that distinguished company. Logan Valley Lodge, No. 89, I.O.O.F. claimed him as a charter member of that great fraternity. He was not emotional and only those who were intimately acquainted with him knew of his tender love and consideration for his family. The funeral was held at the C.S. Newmyer home Sunday, Rev. John E. Spencer delivering the sermon, after which the I.O.O.F. took charge of the services and the remains were interred in the Lyons cemetery.
