On Monday morning his parents received a telegram stating that he was killed in action on November 10th. This is the first news they have had of their three boys who are in France, since the last of October. Wave was thirty-two years old. He was born and brought up in Arnolds Park. The news of his death brings a pang of sorrow to the hearts of all. His mother's first words in her sorrow were, "How can I give him up? He was always so good to me." Published in the Spirit Lake Beacon, Dec. 12, 1918, page 6. --------------- Walter Wave Miguel The second message which came Monday to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miguel at Arnolds Park brought them the sorrowful news that the oldest of their three sons, who are all in France, fell on November 10th, the day before the armistice was signed, while giving his all that the flag of his country should never be turned to defeat and that freedom might be brought not only to the liberty loving people of this nation but the world. While his death is deeply felt by his relatives and all who knew him, honor which he leaves to reverance his name and family will be most pleasant memories. Walter Wave Miguel, was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miguel of Arnolds Park. He was twenty-nine years of age being born on October 5, 1887. He of late years has followed the carpenter trade and was a good mechanic. He went from Dickinson county on July 22nd, helping make up the big contingent of 167 that went to Camp Pike. After only a few weeks there he was sent to France and into the front line several weeks before the fighting ceased. Published in the Spirit Lake Beacon, Dec. 12, 1918, page 1. --------------- BODY OF WALTER MIGUEL ON THE WAY HERE FROM FRANCE A message was received Wednesday announcing the fact that the remains of Walter W. Miguel of Arnolds Park, and brother of E. A. Miguel, County Clerk, was shipped from New York City on Wednesday and is expected here this week. Although it is difficult to determine when the remains will arrive yet a tentative funeral program has been arranged and if the body arrives a Military funeral will be held at Arnolds Park on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Milford Post of the American Legion will have charge of the funeral, as many of the Milford boys were in the contingent and also with him when he was killed in France. The members of Timpe Post, Spirit Lake, will attend the funeral in a body. Walter W. Miguel went with the big contingent from Dickinson county in July, 1918 going to Camp Pike and was killed on November 10, 1918, the day before the Armistice was signed, at Louppy-Sur-Loison, Meuse, France.
